Bee Keeper

  • 5 Years experience required

Midlands Apiaries Ltd is a subsidiary of Midlands Holdings Ltd and is based at Staveley, close to Methven & Mt Hutt and currently runs over 2700 hives from this base.

Midlands Holdings Limited represents a well established group of businesses built around the core business function of specialist seed production. These companies have successfully combined a host of high quality products and professional services to support the success of both their grower suppliers and their international buyers.

Midlands Apiaries Ltd wishes to recruit an experienced Bee Keeper to oversee the development and management of beehives in order to ensure crop pollination and production is maintained. The principle focus of the role will be to:

  • Provide excellent bee husbandry.
  • Ensure pollination and honey product prospects are maximised.
  • Collect and process honey products.
  • Carry out the seasonal maintenance and construction of hives, plant and machinery as needed.
  • Work as part of the team and provide supervision and support to the trainees.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the famer clients and bee 'hosts'.
  • Minimise insect pests and diseases.
  • Comply with all statutory requirements.

Midlands Apiaries currently has hives throughout the Mid Canterbury region producing Clover and Honey Dew honey. Hours of work are season dependent and require flexibility due to the nature and demands of the job.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years Bee Keeping experience with specific skills in raising queens. You may also own your own hives which our client is happy to consider acquiring at market prices if you are the right person for the job. Good organisational skills and the ability to work the hours necessary to get the job done are also important attributes. Relocation to the Metheven/Staveley area will be a requirement of the job due to the hours of work. NZ residency or NZ Work permit is a must.

Export Logistics & Compliance Manager

Midlands Seed Limited was established in 1990, to support and encourage the production and export of arable crops from New Zealand. Since then, the company has grown rapidly to become one of New Zealand's top producers and marketers of vegetable and herbage seeds, dried peas and oilseeds, as well as cereal grains.

The essence of the Export Logistics & Compliance Manager role is to oversee all exporting of Midlands agricultural products. The key focus of this role is to deliver a compliant product of the highest quality to the customer, in an effective and efficient manner.

Applicants should have experience within the export sector, with strong knowledge and experience in all legislative compliance areas including the NZ Food Act 1981, MAF regulations and importing requirements in Europe and Asian markets. Experience in negotiating transportation contracts and understanding quality systems would also be an advantage.

Sales Manager - Arable Foods

Midlands Seed Limited was established in 1990, to support and encourage the production and export of arable crops from New Zealand. Since then, the company has grown rapidly to become one of New Zealand's top producers and marketers of vegetable and herbage seeds, dried peas and oilseeds, as well as cereal grains.

The company wishes to develop and grow its arable food product business and is seeking an individual experienced in business development. The principle focus of the role will be to expand the sale of Pulse, Grains and Seeds within New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands into the food manufacturing and food wholesale sector. Along with acquiring new customers, generating additional revenue with existing accounts will be a strategic objective.

Applicants should have experience within the food sector (sales, distribution or manufacturing) along with a proven track record of success in a senior sales function. The successful person will be required to identify strategic targets, engage and uncover opportunity plus develop and present proposals in order to acquire new business. Previous experience in responding to tenders, awareness of food safety and hygiene standards plus engaging with organisations at a senior level is a necessity. Travel throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands will be a requirement of the role.
