Through innovation, we’ve become one of New Zealand’s top agricultural seed producers.

Seed Production Research

From the company's beginning, one of its main priorities has been a focus on research to help secure the futures of both the company and their farmer clientele. As a result, the company now has extensive research and breeding programmes to support and encourage the development of seed production and arable foods for identifiable markets. Overseas seed varieties are constantly being evaluated for their suitability to New Zealand's magnificent growing conditions, and our Southern Hemisphere location offers an obvious competitive advantage to our customers.

Midlands Seed is dedicated to the research of seed production.  We have developed 'Best Management Practices' for crops and continue to seek new and improved ways to improve seed yield and quality. Our dedicated research team works on the development of all areas of seed production research, from before planting to post harvest management, implementing new technologies and strategies to ensure that they are producing the world’s best seeds.

Hybrid Crop Research

One clear illustration of the success of the company's research is our ability to produce hybrid crops.  Hybrid crop research is a key component of Midlands Seed seed production research. Hybrid production is not only supported by Midlands field ability, but a mature industry approach to crop isolation.

Arable Foods Research

Midlands Seed also dedicates itself to the development of arable foods research. Evaluating different products for process engineering and dietary components.  By breaking down the dietary components they are able to evaluate nutritional benefit for customers and identify new markets for distribution.  Midlands Seed arable foods research produces product specification analysis for all their arable food products, as well as focusing on the development of gluten free grain products.

New Markets

In order to maintain and increase New Zealand's production profile globally, we identify markets for seeds that could be produced in New Zealand and to investigate the possibility of breeding in conjunction with appropriate evaluation and testing. This will ensure that now and in the future New Zealand will maintain and increase its seed production profile.
