While we were only established in 2006, we have a rich history that dates back almost 100 years.
Local beekeeping business, Symes Apiaries, was working with and supporting Midlands Seeds with the pollination of their arable crops in the 1990s and early turn of the century. Symes Apiaries was being managed by John Syme who was the third generation to run the family business since it founded in the early 1920s. Symes Apiaries was purchased in 2006 and has grown to become Midlands Apiaries.
Midlands Apiaries has increased the number of hives it manages over the last decade, and is dedicated to improving hive numbers an strength. Midlands now managing thousands of hives, with a strong focus on the pollination of local crops. In recent years, we have dedicated ourselves to the art of processing and packing New Zealand's beautiful and popular honeys for retail sale in both domestic and export markets. It is this dedication that has grown Midlands Apiaries to become one of the largest honey packers in New Zealand.

Beekeeping and Honey Extraction
Our purpose Apiaries factory was completed in 2015 and was built with a brand new honey extraction facility next door to extract our own Midlands-produced honey, along with the ability to contract on extract for local beekeepers.
Honey Packing and Processing
We are very proud of our honey packing facility! We are also lucky enough to have brand new state of the art equipment for our experienced staff to produce the best product.
In House Laboratory
To meet production standards and customer requirements, Midlands is focused on a high quality production process and the highest quality assurance standards. We undertake regular testing of our honey and honey products to ensure our customers are getting top quality and value. Our experienced in-house lab is capable of conducting a wide-range of tests to meet our quality standards and those of our domestic and export markets. Tests are also carried out by independent IANZ certified laboratories to ensure our products comply with the most stringent quality standards. Test results are available via a certificate of analysis, which is validated against our own specifications and those of our customers to ensure compliance with international standards in a wide range of markets.
